When you’re outdoors, what do you use to check for the time? Most people may say their phones, but if you’re a runner or jogger, a swimmer, or someone always on the go outdoors, you may not always have the luxury of keeping your phone in your hands or taking it out of your pocket to check. That’s why, despite the fact that smartphones have nearly everything we need, a watch’s purpose is still a necessity.
For an active woman, the best type of watch you should have when working out or playing sports is a waterproof digital sports watch. Waterproof watches are reinforced and, whether you’re sweating or swimming, it won’t easily damage your watch. You’ll also want to stay focused, and it’s much easier to tell the time with a split-second glance at a digital watch than with an analogue clock.
But of course, not everyone can afford luxury brands. Despite the affordable price of $25 and below, these are the best waterproof digital sports watches for women.
Timex Mid-Size Ironman Rugged 30 Watch
Price: $25.95
Timex is a brand known for its quality and durability for mid-range prices. Its Ironman Rugged 30 Watch is no exception. Available in three colors (black & lime green, black & pink, and blue, pink, & yellow), it looks like your durable digital watch with its resin wristband designed to withstand high wear and tear and not break on you for a long time – a necessary feature if you’re always on the go or have an active lifestyle.
Despite the strong material, though, it’s still pretty comfortable. The interface is your no-nonsense screen, providing the date, time, and day at a glance. Its additional features include a 30 lap memory recall, a 99 lap counter, a countdown timer, and a stopwatch. In swimming, this watch can withstand a pressure of up to 330 feet.
The buttons aren’t like your average digital watch, so there might be a bit of a learning curve when you get this watch. Unfortunately, based on reviews, a lot of that learning curve will have to be from trial and error as no instruction manual is included with your purchase.
Armitron Sports Women’s Digital Watch
Price: $22.50
Amazon’s choice for waterproof watches for swimming, the Armitron’s Sports Watch for Women may be a good buy for those looking for a budget watch with great waterproof features. Armitron’s watches are known for blending craftsmanship quality and aesthetic into their products, and this clear watch (unless you opt for the more affordable blue jelly watch at $17.99) is a good example of what they have to bring to the market of women’s watches.
The strap is a clear jelly and has a round transparent watch featuring a silver-tone inner dial ring. At a glance, the time is right there, front and center, but it includes additional features such as the seconds, day and date, dual time, alarm, lap time, and a backlight for the dark.
The watch is protected by a 36 mm resin case and has a resin band with a buckle enclosure to ensure that it doesn’t fall off. It’s your basic 330 ft. water resistance, which means it is good for swimming and snorkeling, but you might want to take it off if you’re going scuba diving.
The only downside I see to this is its backlight feature. It’s not an LED light, so it may be difficult to read in the dark.
Casio Women’s Sports Watch
Price: $17.95
The Casio Women’s Sports Watch looks like your everyday digital watch, but don’t be fooled by its traditional feminine colors and size: despite its cute exterior, it has the quality and durability you’ll need for a sports watch. One glance will tell you the day, date, and month, but you have the additional features such as alarm, stopwatch, dual time, and an LED light.
Its water resistance makes it suitable for up to 165 feet – more than the previous two could provide. It is powered by a lithium ion battery which could operate your watch for up to 10 years. However, in terms of diving, it’s not much of a difference and is still unsuitable for deep sea scuba diving. It has a one-year warranty.
Marathon by Timex Women’s Sports Watch
Price: $18.40
Another Timex entry on this list is the Marathon Watch. With 10 designs in a range of prices under $25, this sports watch gives you plenty of options to choose from. Made in the United States, you can bet that everything, from the strap to the watch down to the buckle won’t fail you and your active lifestyle.
The watch includes your basic features such as the alarm, a second time to keep track of a different time zone, and a stop watch. It has an indiglo light feature, not the LED feature, which may be more difficult to read for some, but provides just enough light to read in certain dark areas. Like the Casio watch, it only reaches a diving distance of 165 ft., which doesn’t provide much for scuba divers.
When choosing your women’s digital sports watch, look for durability and quality. Based on this list, if you want a watch for scuba diving, you may need to have a budget bigger than 25 dollars, but if your active lifestyle doesn’t include going on deep underwater expeditions, these watches are durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of an active lifestyle.
